How to prevent shower drain clogs

Washing away the stresses of the day with a long hot shower is something we all look forward to!

There is something about a hot shower after a long day at work that is relaxing and rejuvenating. With the help of all your favorite products, it’s like a personal home spa treatment, thoroughly enjoyable!

What isn’t relaxing is when you realize that the water isn’t running down drain and your shower is slowly turning into a shallow bath…

To prevent future shower drain clogs, follow these 3 simple steps:

  1. Get a drain cover. Drain covers stop hair going down the drain, which is one of the number one causes of blocked drains. These inexpensive accessories come in various styles to suit all drains. Be sure to clean it often to remove any caught hair and soap scum.
  2. Rinse the shower. Leave the water flowing for a few minutes after you have finished showering to let all of the soap wash down the drains and the pipes, giving it a thorough flush to help avoid any build up.
  3. Use a DIY drain cleaner. White vinegar does the trick!  Every few months, pour a cup of vinegar down the drain and let it sit for 10 minutes before flushing with hot water. The acidity of the vinegar should reduce or remove any build up within the pipes. If you can’t stand the smell of vinegar, baking soda will also work.

Blocked drains can be a real pain and can lead to further blockage but fortunately by following these few simple tips you should be able to enjoy your showers, stress and drain clog free!
